This week in Cyprus has been eventful, with a variety of significant stories capturing the public’s attention.

Residents of the Menoyia community and surrounding areas staged a protest against the planned construction of the Limnes migrant reception center. They voiced concerns about safety and demanded more information from authorities.

The issue of homelessness in Cyprus was highlighted when a homeless man built a makeshift shelter under a wooden jetty at Limassol Pier during a recent cold spell.

In Karpasia, four individuals were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 16 donkeys.

The arrests followed police investigations into irregularities related to their hunting rifles.

The island also commemorated 76 years since the closure of the last detention camps set up by the British colonial authorities to house Jewish people bound for Palestine. These camps held tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors.

An Arctic blast named “Coral” brought unusually cold weather across Cyprus, with temperatures plummeting by 8 to 12 degrees Celsius. This cold snap raised concerns about power supply and potential rolling blackouts.
