FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution after a recent complaint of fraud involving individuals posing as doctors.

According to police, the fraudsters contact citizens by phone, claiming that a relative has been injured and requires urgent surgery or medical treatment. They then demand large sums of money to cover the alleged medical expenses.

The perpetrators typically call from hidden numbers and instruct victims not to hang up, preventing them from confirming the story with their relatives or contacting the police.

The police emphasize that such calls are fraudulent, designed to deceive citizens and steal significant amounts of money. They have advised anyone receiving similar calls to report the incident immediately by contacting the nearest police station, district police headquarters, or the Citizen’s Hotline at 1460.

In one recent case reported on Wednesday, March 19, fraudsters in Limassol extorted over 5,000 euros in cash and jewelry from a victim.

Authorities are urging heightened vigilance to prevent further incidents.
