Nordic capitals are among the most popular foreign destinations for Greek travelers this Christmas, with Aegean Airlines reporting strong demand on flights from both Athens and Thessaloniki.

The carrier said Thursday that passengers flying from Athens are favoring Helsinki, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Oslo and Stockholm over the holiday period, while travelers from Thessaloniki are opting mainly for Düsseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Barcelona.

Aegean added that interest is also high in less traditional destinations such as Tunis, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Zagreb and cities in Morocco.

Holiday demand on international routes is running at roughly the same high levels as last year, the airline said, with average load factors above 80% on flights to and from Athens and Thessaloniki over Christmas, New Year’s and Epiphany.

Domestic routes show slightly higher demand than a year ago, with average load factors around 70% from Athens and higher from Thessaloniki.

Aegean reported especially heavy traffic on several peak travel days in late December, with load factors on some Athens and Thessaloniki services climbing into the mid‑ to high‑80% range.
