All those entitled to compensation for the culling of livestock affected by foot-and-mouth disease have already received payment, the Director of Veterinary Services, Christodoulos Pipis, has said.
Neophytos Neophytou, president of the “Voice of Farmers” group, had said that compensation remained outstanding for four farmers, while a further three had received only between 10 and 15 per cent of the amount to which they were entitled.
Mr Pipis said that only three owners, covering four holdings, had not been compensated, and that he had informed them personally that their cases could not proceed.
Responding to claims of delays in restarting operations, he said the four-to-five month period that had elapsed was reasonable, given the procedures that had to be completed.
He estimated that the process of allowing affected farmers to resume operations would begin around the end of September.
