Ankara’s Başkentray commuter rail system has carried 140.3 million passengers since it was modernized and reopened in April 2018, the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry said Monday.

The ministry said the line, which runs 36 kilometers between Sincan and Kayaş, now handles an average of 76,000 passengers a day, rising to as many as 115,000 on busy days.

The project included rebuilding 24 stations to metro standards and completing the Eryaman high‑speed rail station, which serves both high‑speed and commuter trains.

Officials said Başkentray operates as an integrated part of the capital’s transport network, connecting with metro, bus and other public‑transport systems. All stations were redesigned to be accessible for passengers with disabilities.
