FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The number of bounced checks in Cyprus has declined steadily over the past four years, according to data released Monday by the Central Bank of Cyprus.
From January 2022 to July 2025, authorities recorded 794 issuers of non-sufficient funds checks.
The number dropped from 255 in 2022 to 202 in 2024, with just 63 issuers reported in the first seven months of 2025.
The total value of bounced checks also fell, from €1.77 million in 2023 to €312,599 so far in 2025. The cumulative value since 2022 stands at €4.2 million.
Officials say the downward trend reflects improved banking oversight and tighter credit controls.
