FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Police in Cyprus will step up patrols and enforcement measures during the August 15 holiday weekend to ensure public safety and reduce traffic accidents, authorities said Wednesday.
The increased presence will run from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 15–17, with officers deployed along major roads and in crowded public areas.
The operation aims to prevent crime, disturbances and traffic violations, police said in a statement.
Officers will conduct frequent checks targeting driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, reckless overtaking, failure to use seat belts or helmets, mobile phone use while driving and other dangerous behavior.
Additional patrols, both on foot and by vehicle, will be active in cities and rural areas to deter theft and burglary.
Police will also monitor busy commercial streets, resorts and other high-traffic zones.
