FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE –  In a significant escalation of trade tensions, Canada has announced plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on US goods valued at 155 billion Canadian dollars.

this move comes in response to US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 25 percent tariff on all Canadian goods starting Tuesday, as stated by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The tariffs will be implemented in two phases. Beginning Tuesday, Canada will impose a 25 percent tariff on goods worth 30 billion Canadian dollars. An additional 25 percent tariff on goods worth 125 billion Canadian dollars will be imposed 21 days later.

This strategic response aims to protect and defend Canada’s interests, consumers, workers, and businesses from the unjustified and unreasonable tariffs imposed by the United States.

Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized the importance of standing up for Canadian interests and urged Canadians to support domestic products and services. The tariffs are expected to impact a wide range of US goods, including agricultural products, consumer goods, and industrial materials.

The trade dispute has raised concerns about the potential economic impact on both sides of the border. Industries that rely on cross-border trade, such as agriculture, manufacturing, and retail, may face disruptions and increased costs.

The tariffs could also lead to higher prices for consumers and longer wait times at the US-Canada border.
