China imposes a 15 percent tariff on coal from the United States and a 10 percent tariff on certain American goods.
This comes after the United States itself imposed tariffs on China, which came into effect on Tuesday, according to the Chinese Ministry of Finance.
These will come into effect from February 10.
Donald Trump announced early after becoming president that he would impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China.
Mexico and Canada also announced countermeasures shortly after, but on Monday it was announced that these were put on hold.
Many Chinese products already have 10 and 25 percent tariffs. And now goods worth $400 billion will receive an additional 10 percent tariff.
