Fighting in the southern Syrian city of Sweida has largely ceased following a week of deadly clashes between Druze militias and Bedouin tribal fighters, the Interior Ministry said late Saturday.

Security forces have been deployed across the city to enforce a ceasefire and restore order. The ministry said the area is now clear of tribal fighters, who withdrew after sustained attacks by Druze groups.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the retreat, reporting that Druze fighters expelled Bedouin forces from Sweida on Saturday evening. The Observatory also noted that the withdrawal followed a major offensive by Druze militias.

The government had earlier announced troop deployments to the region in an effort to contain the violence, which erupted July 13 and has left hundreds dead. Authorities say humanitarian corridors and emergency aid are being prepared as part of a broader ceasefire plan.
