Cyprus Court Orders Detention of Man Accused in Fatal Stabbing

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — A 53-year-old man was ordered held for eight days by the Paphos District Court after allegedly fatally stabbing his 34-year-old partner and injuring her teenage son.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at a residence in Chlorakas.

The victim, identified as Irini Papakitsa from Greece, died from her injuries.

Her 14-year-old son sustained minor wounds and was discharged Monday morning from Paphos General Hospital.

The suspect, a Greek Cypriot resident of Chlorakas, reportedly attempted to take his own life following the attack.

He is currently hospitalized in stable condition at Nicosia General Hospital. The court hearing was held in his absence.
