President Christodoulides has met the President of Israel, Mr. Isaac Herzog. The meeting focused on regional and international developments.

Christodoulides and Herzog exchanged views on current regional and international developments.

The discussion focused on the development of the situation in Syria and its potential implications for the Eastern Mediterranean, while underlining the stabilizing importance of Cyprus as a bridge between the region and the European Union.

After the meeting, Herzog posted on X thanking Christodoulides for ‘your steadfast friendship and the warm and productive discussion we shared.’

He added: ‘We spoke about the issue that is of the highest priority—bringing home the hostages being cruelly held by Hamas in Gaza—as well as the latest regional challenges and the humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The strong friendship and cooperation between Israel and Cyprus, and between our two peoples, are vital pillars of stability, security, and hope in our region. I deeply value the partnership we share and look forward to continuing to work together for a brighter future.’

Herzog arrive on the island to a stormy reception. Slogans such as “Freedom in Palestine, Stop the genocide”, were shouted by the Pancyprian Peace Council, near the Larnaca airport roundabout.

Tasos Kosteas, President of the Pancyprian Peace Council, said that “we are here to send the message that Cypriots do not accept this barbarity that is happening today in Gaza and which in our opinion is nothing more and nothing less than a systematic extermination of the Palestinian people.”
