Authorities in Cyprus are investigating the causes of a severe disruption to online government services.

The outage that had affected the smooth operation of all public services, especially those with online access, was subsequently restored.

Independent experts who spoke to the newspaper Politis attributed the problem to a cyberattack.

Back in October, three of Cyprus’ largest economic institutions came under cyberattacks. Hermes Airports, which operates the country’s airports, the Cyprus Electricity Authority, and the Bank of Cyprus, the island’s largest lender, were consecutively attacked following threats posted online.

The attacks followed an online statement by a hacker group known as LutzSec Black, which announced it would shift its focus from France to Cyprus. The group accused Cyprus of consistently supporting Israel on military, security, and economic fronts.

On Thursday, the Israeli President Issac Herzog was in Cyprus.
