The Cyprus Consumers Association has said that heating‑oil users are being treated unfairly after the government announced a temporary reduction in the excise tax on motor fuels but did not include heating oil.
The group called on the Finance Ministry to immediately extend the reduced rate to heating oil, saying “there is no justification” for its exclusion.
It said the price of heating oil has risen by an average of 32 cents per liter between March 1 and March 29 and warned of further increases in the coming week.
The association noted that heating‑oil consumption remains significant between April and June, especially in mountain communities where use continues into mid‑May.
Citing data from the Statistical Service, it said average monthly consumption for the period is 2,549 tons.
The group urged the government to clarify its position on the excise‑tax treatment of heating oil.
