It was reported that if the exploratory drilling to be carried out in the “İlektra” target in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Cyprus yields high-quality, abundant and commercially exploitable natural gas, the existence of natural gas there will be confirmed.

The Politis newspaper wrote that the target in question will be worked on with a drill which has the ability to go down to a depth of 12 kilometers, and that the depth of the “Ilektra” target is aimed to be approximately 6 kilometers.

The newspaper stated that seismic research had previously been conducted in the target area where drilling would be carried out, and had shown that there was a natural gas deposit in the region that could be used commercially.

According to the information obtained, it is estimated that there is 10-30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the “Ilektra” target.

The newspaper wrote that if around 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas is extracted from the “İlektra” target, it will be considered the largest natural gas field in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Noting that a NAVTEX covering the period of January 19-June 19 was published regarding the work to be done in the region, the newspaper included information that the work will be done with the “VALARIS DS-9” drilling ship.
