FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – International Olympic Committee (IOC) President-elect Kirsty Coventry praised Asia’s significance in global sports during her keynote speech at the 45th Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly.
The Zimbabwean former Olympic swimmer, set to succeed Thomas Bach on June 23, highlighted the continent’s “dynamism, passion, and ambition” in her first formal address since her election.
“Asia has always had a special place in the Olympic Movement—and in my heart. You are central to its future,” Coventry said.
She will become the first female IOC president and the first leader from outside Europe or North America. Coventry pledged to prioritize dialogue with athletes as part of her vision for the Olympic Movement.
