FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 17-year-old boy who had been in critical condition with meningitis at Nicosia General Hospital has died, hospital officials confirmed Wednesday morning.
The teenager, who was diagnosed with meningococcal sepsis, had been intubated in the intensive care unit for nearly two weeks.
Despite extensive efforts by medical staff, he succumbed to the illness.
Health authorities noted that other recent cases of meningitis had been reported.
A 6-month-old infant, also hospitalized with meningitis, was discharged earlier this week after recovering.
