FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The “Great Sea Interconnector” project, aimed at establishing an electrical connection between Cyprus and Greece via submarine cables, remains a focal point in the local press.

Politis newspaper reported that despite Turkish objections, Greece is preparing to issue a Navtex for seabed research along the line between Kashot Island and Kerpe Island, to be conducted by the research vessel “NG WORKER.”

The report highlighted that the project is advancing towards implementation, with the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs taking steps to publish Navtex following high-level consultations.

The newspaper noted that seabed research, paused in February due to geopolitical tensions with Turkey, is set to resume.

Sources from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs reportedly stated that the project would proceed regardless of an agreement with Turkey.

Additionally, the energy regulatory authorities of Greece and Cyprus have sent a letter to the EU, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Great Sea Interconnector for Greece,  Cyprus, Israel, and the EU.

This project is seen as a critical step in enhancing regional energy connectivity and cooperation.
