It has been reported that lowering the voting age to 17 is on the agenda in Cyprus.
The Politis newspaper reports that 13 draft laws aimed at amending the election law are expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers by the Ministry of Interior and that the proposed changes aim to regulate the automatic registration of voters in the permanent voter register, encourage participation in the election procedure and lower the voting age to 17.
In order to be automatically registered on the electoral roll, one must be a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus, be over 17 years old, reside within the borders of the Republic of Cyprus and have a Republic of Cyprus ID.
