FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Sovereign Base Areas have donated €50,000 to support community projects, including schools, cultural associations, and sports clubs, officials said.

The funds, provided annually through the Cyprus Community Relations Fund, will help finance playground equipment, projectors, and laptops for schools, as well as costumes, musical instruments, and sports equipment for local organizations.

The grants were presented at events marking the departure of former Sovereign Base Areas Administrator Peter Squires, attended by community leaders and stakeholders.

Speaking to local representatives, Dhekelia Area Officer George Kiteos praised the cooperation between the administration and communities. “We will continue to support our local communities financially and in any way we can, and we look forward to strengthening our friendship and cooperation,” he said.

Akrotiri Area Officer Nicos Mylonas echoed the sentiment. “This meeting reflects the strong relations between our communities, and we are confident these bonds will grow stronger as we continue supporting them,” he said.
