Cyprus has completed the first phase of repatriating citizens stranded in the United Arab Emirates and other conflict‑affected areas, with nearly 1,000 people returned since Wednesday.
“Six flights have arrived in Cyprus, bringing home a total of 950 of our compatriots and other citizens of the Republic,” government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said. “Given the conditions and the countries involved, this is a very high number.”
A government source told ANT1 that efforts now focus on repatriating 29 Cypriots aboard a cruise ship anchored in Doha, as well as a group of young travelers stuck in Thailand.
“Work continues wherever repatriation is feasible and where circumstances allow,” Letymbiotis said.
Authorities are also considering arranging an additional flight from Dubai next week, after several Cypriots living permanently in the emirate expressed interest in returning home.
