Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas has confirmed Cyprus’ interest in acquiring the Greek‑made “Centaur” anti‑drone system, saying he is in coordination with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias.
Palmas said the government is initially examining the purchase of four systems, either through the European Union’s SAFE regulation or via direct procurement, depending on production timelines.
He also announced that the Cabinet has approved an increase in the special allowance for Contracted Soldiers (SYOP), raising payments from €100 to €150 and from €200 to €250 for personnel in special units.
Palmas added that a new recruitment call for SYOP positions is expected in May, and the first 250 soldiers completing ten years of service will be granted permanent status.
