Fuel Tax Cut Takes Effect in Cyprus

A reduction in the consumption tax on fuel will take effect today, the Finance Ministry confirmed.

The measure was presented Thursday in an emergency session of Parliament’s Finance Committee and was approved unanimously by the full House.

It lowers the consumption tax by 8.33 cents per liter on gasoline and 6 cents per liter on diesel.

According to Savvas Prokopiou, head of the Petrol Stations Association, fuel prices have continued to rise since the government announced its support package on March 26.

Gasoline has increased by 9 cents per liter and diesel by 15 cents in that period.

Consumer Association president Marios Droushiotis said that since the start of the war, gasoline has risen by 27.5 cents per liter, diesel by 46 cents and heating oil by 38.5 cents.
