The election calendar for the May 24 parliamentary vote in Cyprus has officially opened, the head of the Election Service, Menelaos Vasiliou, said in remarks to Omega TV.
According to Vasiliou, 27 political parties are already registered to take part in the general election. Two additional parties have applications under review; if their procedures are completed and they file by May 6, the number of participating parties could rise to 29.
Election law sets a €25,000 spending limit for each candidate’s campaign, with an additional €5,000 allowed in personal expenses. Vasiliou reminded parties and campaign teams that they are required to provide detailed disclosures of income and expenditures.
He said anyone who turns 18 before election day has the right to register on the electoral roll, but did not provide updated figures on the current number of registered voters.
