Cyprus: Half a million offences recorded by traffic cameras

Traffic violations detected by Cyprus’ camera network have surged, with more than half a million offences recorded by fixed cameras since the system went live, Fileleftheros reported.

The paper says 2024 saw the highest number of violations, while a slight drop was recorded last year.

Of the roughly 790,000 offences logged by the end of 2025, more than 505,000 were captured by fixed cameras.

Despite drivers knowing where the cameras are located, authorities say violations remain high — something they attribute to inattention or the belief that penalties can be avoided.

Nearly half of all fines remain unresolved, the report adds, due to notification letters not reaching drivers, difficulties confirming addresses, or individuals deliberately refusing to pay and opting to challenge the fines in court.
