Cyprus has a comprehensive strategy to transform the island into a sustainable, competitive and interconnected energy market, Energy Minister Michalis Damianou has said.
Speaking at the International Conference on Climate Action in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East, held in Nicosia under the Cypriot EU Council Presidency, Damianou said investments in storage, liquefied natural gas, interconnection projects, renewables and green hydrogen are “steps toward a more resilient, sovereign and sustainable energy future.”
He noted that the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East are warming at roughly twice the global average, facing more intense heatwaves, prolonged droughts, reduced freshwater availability and rising sea levels that threaten coastal populations, critical infrastructure and biodiversity.
