The Social Insurance Services has warned that a fake email is being sent in bulk, falsely claiming to come from the agency and attempting to steal money from citizens’ bank accounts.
The message tells recipients their benefit payment has been approved and asks for bank account details to charge a supposed €10 processing fee.
The agency said it never asks applicants to pay any fee for the approval of a claim.
It added that official emails are sent only from addresses ending in “@mlsi.gov.cy” and urged the public not to open links in such messages and to delete them immediately.
