Cyprus’ Forest Department has issued a “Red Alert” for wildfire danger on Sunday, warning of extreme risk for ignition and rapid spread due to dry conditions.
Officials urged the public to exercise maximum caution during outdoor activities and to avoid any actions that could spark a fire.
Starting a fire is a criminal offense under Cyprus’ Forest Law and the Law on the Prevention and Suppression of Fires in the Countryside, and carries severe penalties.
Authorities asked anyone who sees smoke or flames to immediately call the Forest Department at 1407 or the Fire Service at 112.
