Traffic police in Cyprus arrested two drivers late Friday night for excessive speeding and multiple driving violations on highways near Larnaca.
Around 8 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle traveling at 184 kilometers per hour (114 mph) on the Larnaca–Limassol highway, nearly double the legal limit of 100 km/h (62 mph). The 31-year-old driver was found to be operating the vehicle without a driver’s license or insurance. He was arrested on the spot, charged in writing, and released pending a court appearance.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., a second vehicle was stopped on the Kofinou–Larnaca highway for traveling at 135 km/h (84 mph). Police said the 50-year-old driver had a revoked license and no insurance. He also tested positive in a preliminary drug test. He was arrested and later re-arrested due to outstanding warrants for unpaid fines.
