FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh orange alert for extreme heat on Monday, marking the third consecutive day of high-temperature warnings across the island.
The alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius (109°F) in inland areas and 34 degrees Celsius (93°F) in mountainous regions.
The ongoing heatwave has prompted repeated warnings from authorities, who urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak hours, and check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and young children.
The extreme conditions are part of a broader regional pattern affecting southern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean, with Cyprus experiencing sustained high temperatures well above seasonal averages
