FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities responded to an emergency in Larnaca on Sunday night following reports of a stabbing in the Drosia area, police said.

Officers arrived quickly and cordoned off the scene. Preliminary investigations identified the victim as a 26-year-old European national who sustained a knife wound. He was transported to Larnaca General Hospital, where his condition was described as serious but stable.

Police said the suspect, a 29-year-old man of African origin, has been located and is expected to face an arrest warrant. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

The incident marks the latest in a series of violent episodes in the region, prompting increased police presence and ongoing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the assault.

Last month, President Nikos Christodoulides announced that a riot unit from the Rapid Response Motorized Division (MMAD) would reinforce police operations in Larnaca following a spate of robberies and assaults in the coastal city.

He said the issue had also been discussed with Larnaca’s mayor and the deputy minister of migration, as young foreign nationals were reportedly involved in many of the recent altercations.
