Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris has visited the VTS facilities in Vasiliko as part of the government’s effort to strengthen security around the country’s critical energy infrastructure.

During the visit, Fytiris was briefed on the site’s operations and safety procedures, and discussed emergency‑response scenarios, including fires and external threats.

Officials also highlighted the role the company itself can play by using its own resources to support response operations.

The visit forms part of a broader government plan to reinforce protection of key installations.

That plan includes the creation of a Coast Guard service to coordinate relevant operational units, as well as a new unit dedicated to safeguarding critical coastal infrastructure.

“The security of our energy facilities is of paramount importance,” Fytiris said, adding that prevention, preparedness and coordination are essential to protecting lives, the environment and national infrastructure.

He said the ministry is advancing initiatives to design and regularly test operational plans in cooperation with the Fire Service, Police, Port and Marine Police and the Air Operations Unit.
