FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 24-year-old Larnaca resident sustained serious injuries to his right hand on Sunday while inspecting a factory firecracker, resulting in the amputation of fingers.

Due to the severity of the injury, the man was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital for surgery.

Christodoulos Konsolos, Press Spokesperson for the Larnaca Police Department, stated that the man arrived at Larnaca Hospital’s Emergency Department at approximately 1:45 p.m.

The explosion occurred in the area of Agioi Anargyroi under circumstances still being examined.

“The explosion resulted in the amputation of the upper phalanx of the middle, ring, and thumb fingers on his right hand,” Konsolos explained. He added that the victim was subsequently transferred to the Plastic Surgery Department in Nicosia for further treatment.

The Larnaca Regional Medical Center is continuing to investigate the incident, while police urge vigilance during the Easter season.

Parents are specifically advised to monitor children’s activities involving firecrackers to prevent similar injuries.
