Snowfall typically seen in December blanketed Troodos yesterday, creating a scene more reminiscent of Christmas than Easter.
Up to three centimeters of snow accumulated in the square, showcasing winter’s charm on the snowy slopes.
Panagiotis Mouskos, an officer at the Meteorological Service, reported snow in various locations, with the station recording three millimeters in Troodos square and seven millimeters in Chionistra.
The cold snap brought a significant drop in temperature, leading to a yellow warning for severe weather issued by the Meteorological Service.
Island quenched by much-needed rainfall
Yesterday’s storms brought intense rainfall, but fortunately, no hail was reported.
Mouskos shared that stations recorded substantial rainfall rates, with Akamas receiving the largest amount at 29 millimeters.
More than 20 millimeters were recorded across most areas, providing temporary relief for the island’s water reserves.
Holy Week weather outlook
As of yesterday, Mouskos noted that Holy Week would begin with partly cloudy conditions and possible rainfall in mountainous areas today. Clear skies and warmer temperatures were forecasted to arrive by Tuesday, with temperatures expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
