Police Mount Island-Wide Overnight Patrols, Arrest Three

Police stepped up their presence across Cyprus overnight, carrying out organised patrols at key points in urban areas aimed at preventing serious crime, safeguarding public order and boosting the public’s sense of security.

The preventive operations led to the arrest of three people for offences including illegal residence on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, among others.

During the night’s operations, 492 drivers and 154 passengers were stopped and checked, while 52 checks were carried out on premises to tackle offending behaviour, resulting in five complaints.

Traffic checks produced 307 reports for various road offences, along with 15 cases now under investigation. Of the reports issued, 93 were for speeding, while nine vehicles were impounded in the course of police inquiries. A further 135 breath tests were carried out, yielding two complaints, while two drivers tested positive in preliminary drug tests.

Policing operations aimed at preventing and cracking down on crime continue daily, with a stepped-up presence, targeted checks and swift operational action, designed to boost public confidence and safeguard law and order.
