Cyprus will host a series of cultural events across all districts in April and May to mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites.
The annual observance, established by UNESCO in 1983, aims to raise public awareness about the importance of cultural heritage. This year’s theme, “Living Heritage and Emergency Response,” highlights the need to protect living traditions threatened by natural disasters, conflict and other risks.
The Department of Antiquities said all archaeological sites and monuments under its management will offer free admission on Saturday, April 18.
Events include:
April 18 — Kiti, Larnaca District, 19:00 A cultural event titled “Memories from Stone,” organized with the Metropolis of Kition, showcasing monuments of Panagia Kanakaria, Panagia Kyra and Panagia Angeloktisti. The program includes a photo exhibition, short film screening, music and a reception.
April 19 — Kourion Municipality, Limassol District, 9:30 A charity drive titled “Cultural Routes of Kourion,” supported by the Department of Antiquities and the Limassol Classic Car Club, with a route passing key monuments including Kolossi Castle and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates.
April 25 — Choirokoitia A morning hike and guided tour of the Choirokoitia trail, co‑organized with the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
May 9 — Lagoudera–Platanistasa A guided nature trail linking the UNESCO‑listed churches of Panagia tou Araka and Timios Stavros tou Agiasmati.
May 15 — Choirokoitia Archaeological Site A stone‑tool workshop for primary school students, in cooperation with archaeologist Theodora Moutsiou.
May 16 — Larnaca Castle, 16:00 & 20:00
