A Cypriot antiquity identified for sale in an online auction in the United States has been returned to Cyprus, the Department of Antiquities has said.
The artifact — a White Painted V jug from the Cypro‑Archaic II period (600–480 B.C.) — was handed over to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington on March 27, 2026. It was withdrawn from auction after Department of Antiquities officers monitoring illegal trafficking online alerted the auction house.
The department expressed its thanks to Kleinfelter’s Auction Inc., the donor who voluntarily surrendered the item, and the Cypriot Embassy in Washington for coordinating the repatriation process.
