The first section of Cyprus’ new pre‑departure migrant detention centre at Limnes began operating Monday, following the full transfer of detainees from the existing facility in Menogeia, the Justice Ministry said.
The ministry described the move as a significant upgrade of state infrastructure, saying the new centre is intended to improve operational management of migration and ease pressure on older facilities.
The statement said the project forms part of a broader plan to create “modern installations that ensure order, functionality and respect for rights.”
The remaining sections of the centre will open in phases as construction progresses.
