Cyprus pension reform will reflect modern needs of retirees – Govt

In recent comments, the government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said that the next major reform planned by the administration is a pension overhaul designed to address the contemporary needs of retirees.

Letymbiotis said the president, the labor minister and the finance ministry have prepared a comprehensive framework for the reform.

He said the state’s goal is to strengthen public finances and maintain a resilient economy, allowing it to support citizens’ incomes — citing recent tax reform, two increases to the minimum guaranteed income and the full restoration of the cost‑of‑living allowance.

Letymbiotis said the labor ministry has already presented the core proposals to social partners. Their positions, along with those of political parties, will be incorporated in the final plan.

He said the government aims to submit the reform to parliament after September, once consultations are completed, stressing that dialogue is treated as a substantive tool rather than a formality.
