The Department of Forestry has conducted a two-day training programme for National Guard personnel on the rational use of earth movers in preventing and suppressing forest fires.
The training, held on June 30 and July 1, combined theoretical and practical instruction, covering the basic principles of forest fire suppression as well as the techniques and safe practices required when operating earth movers, both for preventive fire-protection works and during active suppression operations.
The Department of Forestry said the initiative underlined the importance of close cooperation and coordination between itself, the National Guard and other agencies involved in preventing and tackling forest fires, with the shared aim of protecting forests, human life, property and the wider natural environment.
