Cyprus police carried out targeted overnight operations across urban areas, resulting in five arrests as part of a nationwide effort to prevent serious crime and strengthen public safety.
Police said the coordinated patrols focused on key locations in cities, aiming to deter criminal activity and maintain public order.
The arrests involved offenses including driving without a license, driving under the influence of drugs, and four cases of driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the operation, officers stopped and checked 968 drivers and passengers.
They also conducted 56 inspections of premises, issuing five citations for various violations.
Traffic enforcement formed a major part of the sweep, with 234 citations issued for road‑safety offenses and 16 additional cases opened for further investigation.
Police said the most common violations included speeding — with 133 drivers cited — along with 34 cases of drunk driving and three cases involving drug‑impaired driving.
Twenty‑one vehicles were impounded.
Authorities said similar coordinated operations will continue daily, with increased police presence and targeted checks aimed at boosting public confidence and ensuring public order.
