FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities are investigating fresh reports of online fraud involving alleged cryptocurrency investments worth tens of thousands of euros.
Two men, aged 37 and 45, filed complaints on August 10 and 12, respectively, stating they had received messages via a communication app offering flexible work hours and additional income.
After expressing interest, both were contacted the same day by an unknown individual who introduced himself as a financial advisor and encouraged them to invest in cryptocurrency.
The victims proceeded to transfer €40,760 and €20,000, respectively.
Later, the alleged advisor requested additional funds to supposedly release their profits. At that point, both men realized they had been defrauded.
Police are urging the public to exercise caution when conducting online transactions or investments. They advise working only with recognized firms and licensed financial advisors for any financial dealings.
