Cyprus police make 11 arrests in overnight crime‑prevention sweep

Police carried out intensified checks and boosted their presence across key urban areas overnight, making 11 arrests as part of ongoing targeted crime‑prevention operations, authorities said Saturday.

Six people were arrested for various offenses, while another five were detained on outstanding court warrants for unpaid fines.

In Limassol district, officers arrested three individuals — two for carrying knives and one for illegal drug possession. Two more arrests were made in Paphos: one for illegal possession of property and another for forgery, circulating a forged document and impersonation.

Traffic police also arrested a driver caught speeding at 187 kilometers per hour on the highway. During the operations, officers collected €1,290 in unpaid warrants.

More than 790 vehicles were stopped for checks, and over 1,000 occupants were screened. Police also carried out 41 inspections of premises, issuing four citations for operating‑license violations.

Traffic enforcement resulted in 366 citations for various offenses, including 36 for driving under the influence of alcohol. More than 430 breath tests were conducted, and 31 vehicles were impounded as part of ongoing investigations.

Police said the operations form part of a broad, continuous and expanding prevention plan aimed at deterring crime and strengthening public safety across all districts.
