Authorities were placed on alert after human bones were discovered in the Tris Elies area of Limassol.
Police said the remains were found a short distance from the village cemetery. The area has been cordoned off and investigations are under way.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Department and an anthropologist are expected to visit the site on Thursday morning to examine the bones.
Police will also search the area to determine whether an open grave may be present.
