FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities are working to identify two individuals suspected of targeting buses on Amathus Avenue with firecrackers, Deputy Limassol Police Chief Costas Michael said Thursday on state radio.
Michael expressed confidence in the investigation following a recent incident in which a factory-made firecracker was thrown from a bus window, exploding in front of the driver.
Witnesses said two young individuals were responsible for similar attacks earlier this week at the same location, where firecrackers were thrown at buses without causing injuries.
EMEL spokesperson Petros Theocharides reported that the perpetrators use a motorcycle, tossing firecrackers as buses slow near bus stops.
Although prior attacks went unreported due to their limited impact, Theocharides noted rising concern among drivers over safety risks to passengers and staff.
The driver involved in the latest attack was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures and is in good health, though he reported slight shock.
