Yellow Weather Alert Issued for Cyprus

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Cyprus Meteorology Department has issued a yellow warning for isolated strong storms expected to develop after noon on Friday.

The advisory is in effect from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and covers areas primarily in the mountains, inland, the north, and the east. Hail is anticipated alongside intense rainfall, which could range between 35-55 millimeters per hour.

Detailed Forecast:

  • Friday Daytime: Initially partly cloudy with a chance of isolated coastal rain. By midday, increased cloudiness will bring localized showers and isolated storms, predominantly in the aforementioned regions. Hail may accompany these storms. Conditions are expected to improve by late afternoon. Winds will shift from southeasterly to southwesterly, becoming moderate (3–4 Beaufort). Sea conditions will range from calm to slightly rough in the south and east, and slightly rough in the west and north. Temperatures will peak at 22°C inland, 20°C along the coast, and 8°C in the higher mountains.
  • Friday Night: Mostly clear skies are expected, although cloud cover in the west and north may bring isolated showers. During the early morning hours, low clouds, fog, or mist may form in interior and eastern areas. Winds will be light (3 Beaufort), and the sea will remain calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will fall to 9°C inland, 12°C along the south and east coasts, 14°C along the west and north coasts, and 4°C in the higher mountains.
