FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Police ramped up coordinated patrols inside the walled city of Nicosia as part of efforts to boost public safety, authorities said.
The operation falls under an initiative led by Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis and Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection Nikolas Ioannidis.
Members of the Special Immediate Response Unit and Nicosia’s Crime Prevention Squad inspected multiple establishments and checked 109 individuals, both locals and foreigners.
A 43-year-old man was arrested after officers found a gas-emitting device and brass knuckles in his possession. He was charged in writing and released pending a court summons.
Police also detained two others for allegedly residing unlawfully in the Republic of Cyprus.
