President Nikos Christodoulides is taking part Thursday in the informal European Council in Belgium, where leaders of the EU’s 27 member states are set to focus on strengthening the bloc’s competitiveness.

The day‑long meeting will open with the traditional exchange of views between EU leaders and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

Former Italian prime ministers Mario Draghi and Enrico Letta will then address separate working sessions, presenting their views on boosting European competitiveness and deepening the single market. Their interventions follow the reports they submitted in 2024.

Ahead of the informal summit, Christodoulides is also scheduled to join a meeting of European leaders convened by the German chancellor and the prime ministers of Italy and Belgium, again centred on competitiveness.
