Laboratory tests have found that 193 vape‑liquid cartridges seized last month from three cannabis‑product shops in Nicosia’s south, Paphos and Paralimni contained a dangerous synthetic drug, according to a report in Politis.
The products were confiscated during joint inspections by the police narcotics unit and the Customs Department in December. The State Laboratory later detected, among other substances, a psychoactive synthetic compound of the MDMB type — a drug known to pose serious health risks, including potentially fatal cardiac complications.
The newspaper said the substance is believed to be used mainly by young people. Following the findings, the narcotics unit and Customs have reportedly called for a strict review of operating licences for shops authorised to sell cannabis‑related products.
