President Nikos Christodoulides has said the government will take whatever actions are required under the Constitution to ensure a full investigation into the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption.
Speaking to reporters at an event in Analiontas, Christodoulides said the government is awaiting the formal submission of the report to the Legal Service, which will study it and announce next steps. “As the executive branch, I can say with certainty that we will act in line with the Legal Service’s announcements to ensure a complete investigation,” he said.
He added that his administration is committed to transparency, accountability and strengthening public trust in state institutions.
Asked about calls from former President Nicos Anastasiades and author Makarios Drousiotis for the attorney general and deputy attorney general to recuse themselves from examining the case, Christodoulides said the government will wait for the Legal Service’s statements. He reiterated that any action taken will be strictly within the Constitution and relevant laws to guarantee a thorough inquiry.
